Our favourite dog-friendly restaurants, pubs & eateries in Padstow 6m Cornwall Lovat Parks 21/06/22 Cornwall’s reputation for good food is beyond doubt, and Padstow is arguably the region’s cuisine capital — so furry family members don’t want to miss out! Fortunately, there are plenty of excellent pro-pup eateries and watering holes in and around the harbour, so your canine companions can join you as you explore. Have a gander at just a few of our favourites for top-drawer hos-paw-tality! The best dog-friendly restaurants and places to eat and drink in Padstow Whether you’re after some sumptuously-sweet mussels or a creamy, smooth St. Austells Brewery ale with your furry friend in tow, Padstow’s the place to be. Whilst you’re enjoying four-legged adventures in and around this stunning fishing port, don’t miss a few of our favourite locals and restaurants. The Shipwrights— classic brick-built pub with a super-tasty menu With incredible views over the harbour, Shipwrights is at the heart of the action. This grade II pub-turned-restaurant was a one-time haunt of local fishermen and port tradespeople, and nowadays offers a range of award-winning beers and delectable local fayre. As well as that, you guessed it, it’s garnered a reputation as a great spot for those with furry-friends in tow — so sit down, sup up and soak in the atmosphere. When you’re done, there’s plenty to explore and you can always walk off the festivities along the seafront with a dog walk! Shipwrights is a minute’s walk from the Padstow to Rock ferry point, which takes you and your canine pals across the River Camel. Head north along the South West Coast Path when you arrive and you’ll discover an expanse of golden, dog-friendly sand — great for a gentle post-meal stretch of all four legs. Mussel Box— contemporary dining, fit for the whole family Mussel Box offers a diverse, exciting menu focusing around — as the name suggests — fresh fish, shellfish and locally-caught mussels, a Padstow delicacy for an authentic taste of Cornwall. It’s not all about the seafood, though. Mussel Box provides breakfasts and even takeaway Sunday roasts if you’re wanting something to bring along on your four-legged adventures. Like Shipwrights, Mussel Box is close to quay so you’ll benefit from panoramic views of Padstow’s bustling harbour — as well as a warm welcome for canine visitors. When the summer sun’s beating down, there’s no better place to enjoy a fruity and refreshing Cornish ale than the outdoor dining space at Mussel Box; well-behaved dogs are welcomed as long as they’re on a lead. Image credit: www.musselbox.co.uk Ruby’s— Rick Stein’s popular cocktail bar is doggo friendly! Rick Stein is synonymous with Padstow — he’s behind four restaurants in the harbour — but Rick and his wife Jill also opened this luxurious cocktail hideout in 2016. It’s next door to his St Petroc’s Bistro restaurant on Broad Street Ruby’s is perhaps less talked about, but for dog lovers after a cosy, stylish environment to enjoy a Rick’s margarita, zippy sauvignon blanc or cheeky glass of fizz, it’s a big hit. Admittedly, this is cocktails and drinks only — we know we said food — but after a hard day of beach exploration or coastal walking, sometimes a classy beverage is all that’s needed. Image credit: www.rickstein.com/restaurants/rubys-bar/ The Old Custom House—harbour views, great food and pawfect for doggy guests The Old Custom House holds one of the coveted harbour-view spots in Padstow. This is one of the places to come if you’re looking for somewhere to stop on the south quay with a dog in tow. Sample a range of wines and beers, or tuck into something tasty. This pub offers a focus on yummy food — whether you’re choosing a pub favourite or some locally-caught seafood, they’re passionate about the provenance of ingredients. From here, you’re so close to the water you can almost touch it, so you’ll love these surroundings to round off a day of exploring. The Rock Inn— for locally-caught delicacies with a view Now this one’s not strictly in Padstow, but we’d be remiss to not mention it. Rock is a beautiful coastal fishing village nestled atop the hills across the River Camel from Padstow. You can catch the ferry from Padstow Landing (don’t worry, dogs are allowed aboard) — well worth it even without the food and drink on offer at The Rock Inn. The views offered by its elevated seafront location are bettered only by the range of delicacies on offer, and the warm welcome you and your furry friends are assured of. The pub is also supplied by the iconic St Austell Brewery; the perfect way to whet your whistle in traditional Cornish style. One of the best parts? Rock is home to one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Cornwall with rugged cliff top panoramas and no canine restrictions all year round. A great way to burn off some of that doggy ice cream, for sure.
