Reducing Waste at Lovat Parks: Measurable Impact and Practical Action 3m B Corp Lovat Parks 29/12/25 At Lovat Parks, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Between 2022 and 2024, we have tracked and reduced waste across all our parks, creating measurable improvements for both the environment and our guests. ♻️ Improved Recycling and Reduced Landfill Waste Across all parks, we’ve seen significant reductions in waste sent to landfill: Overall landfill reduction: 45.5% decrease since baseline Recycling rates: 45% of all waste uplifted in 2024, an 18% improvement on 2022 and 3% increase from 2023 Organic composting: significantly increased Waste per guest: On average, each guest sent only 2.2 kg to landfill in 2024 — roughly the weight of a small beach cooler filled with drinks These numbers demonstrate that small, everyday actions add up to a meaningful environmental impact. Park-Level Waste Savings Each park has made significant strides in reducing waste per guest, with tangible comparisons to everyday items: Padstow Holiday Village, Cornwall: 3.553 kg per guest — equivalent to a portable gas stove Cornish Meadows, Cornwall: 1.992 kg per guest — equivalent to a portable camping chair Penmarlam, Cornwall: 3.272 kg per guest — equivalent to a set of foldable camping stools Sun Haven, Cornwall: 1.866 kg per guest — equivalent to a handheld cooler bag with snacks Green Hill Farm, The New Forest: 2.737 kg per guest — equivalent to a camping lantern Waxham Sands, Norfolk: 1.654 kg per guest — equivalent to a water bottle and travel mug set These comparisons help make the reductions more tangible, showing that small actions at each park add up to a meaningful environmental impact. 🏖️ Park-Level Initiatives: Padstow Holiday Village At Padstow Holiday Village, we trialled and implemented several initiatives to reduce landfill and increase recycling: In-accommodation communication: Guests were informed about our waste reduction performance Single-use cup replacement: Trialling reusable coffee cups at in-park coffee machines Mud kitchens: Created from toiletries and crisp packet recycling collection stands Food waste management: Clear display of food waste boxes and fridge stickers Plastic-free kitchen packs and in-accommodation recycling bins Bin store signage: Clearer messaging to support correct recycling These initiatives show how practical, guest-facing actions can make a real difference. 🗓️ Looking Ahead: Waste Initiatives for 2025 Building on our successes, Padstow Holiday Village and other parks plan to: Add recycling bins to every accommodation Expand guest education on recycling and food waste Continue to create mud kitchens from hard-to-recycle items Maintain toiletry and crisp packet collection stands Track and share baseline vs current performance in accommodations Our 2025 plans reinforce the principle that reducing waste is a team effort, from staff and B Corp Champions to guests visiting our parks. 💚 The Bigger Picture By combining measurement, engagement, and targeted initiatives, Lovat Parks has made measurable progress in waste reduction. Every kg diverted from landfill and every percent increase in recycling brings us closer to a Net Zero 2030 future, protecting our communities, coasts, and wildlife while delivering responsible holiday experiences.
