We made it. We’re a B Corp.

We’re rather excited at Lovat Parks because we’ve just been certified as one of only 212 B Corp certified companies in the UK and one of just 3,243 on the entire planet. Now, you may be wondering what all the excitement is about and also what on earth a B Corp is... well if you’ve a couple of minutes, read on and we’ll explain.

We’ll start at the beginning. When we formed Lovat Parks, we didn’t do it just for profit. Yes, we’re a business and we need to pay our team and be able to look after our parks, but our main motivation is actually to not only be good at what we do, but do good, too. Not just for you, our residents, holiday homeowners and visiting holidaymakers, but for our team, the environment and also the local communities where our parks are based.

A force for good

You hear so much today about businesses axing employees and cutting corners in order to pay shareholders bigger and bigger dividends. We think that’s entirely the wrong way to go about business – we want to balance profit and purpose. Customers do too, in fact 73% of people choosing who to buy something from care about the company, not just what they offer or make.

We simply want to be a force for good and live the values we passionately believe in. We then realised we weren’t actually alone. There were thousands of companies, big and small, all over the world who thought like us but wanted a way of proving they’re different and really care. Think of them as champions for change.

B Corp certification

We’d heard about B Corp and knew that some of the companies we respected most were members. Companies that wanted to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. So, we decided to go for it and try to get B Corp’s stamp of approval. It was harder than we first thought. Much harder.

The B Corp community is about reducing inequality, lowering levels of poverty, creating a healthier environment, stronger communities and more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose.

We had to prove that we did all this and met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability. We had to show how we use profits and growth to make a positive impact for our employees, communities and the environment.

After 15 months of hard work and incredibly rigorous assessment of our entire business, we did it. No stone was left unturned and we’re now proud to announce that Lovat Parks is B Corp certified.

We’re in very good company

When you see the select list of B Corp certified companies, you realise that we’re rubbing shoulders with some of the most well-known and honest names with real integrity. Innocent. Ben & Jerry’s. Cook. Patagonia. Ella’s Kitchen. Fairphone. The Big Issue. Divine Chocolate. Hopefully, they will feel that way about us.

This is just the start

With B Corp certification comes big responsibility. We are legally accountable to maintain this ideal balance of profit and purpose. We need to continually respect the environment. We have to be honest and transparent at all times. We need to be true to our values and above all, to you. Wish us luck.
